First festival gig!

May 4th, 2015

Tomorrow, we’ll be playing our very first festival gig in Zwolle at Bevrijdingsfestival Overijssel, that celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. We must say, we’re pretty nervous; there will be a lot of people and it will be live-streamed by broadcaster RTV Oost for about 100.000 people. All we can do now is rely on ourselves and the people around that support us. Someone told us that when you’re nervous for a gig, you’d best watch a movie, so that’s probably what we’ll be doing for the next hours 😉

Marike Jager came to visit

April 30th, 2015

Marike Jager paid us a visit twice to help us with our songs and performance. The first time we met, Henk-Jan Heuvelink joined her. We played the whole set for them. In the beginning it felt a bit awkward, but during the performance we got more comfortable.

Afterwards we talked about the different songs, the order in which we played them and the stage setup. We didn’t have a clear vision on these things yet; our focus had been mostly on the music. At the end we discussed the different songs separately and Marike and Henk-Jan really managed to get to the core. We felt connected with their comments, which felt like a great leap forward.

The second time Marike came along, she was astonished by the progress we had made in the meantime, that felt really good! She came up with a creative idea to finish the last song, which we will try out on our next gig.

Thank you so much, Marike and Henk Jan for helping us!

Review Oranjepop 2015 by File under

April 29th, 2015

Another great review of our show at Oranjepop Nijmegen by Theo from File under:

Review EP “All Right” on KindaMuzik

April 29th, 2015

This is our very FIRST (Dutch) review of our very FIRST EP called “All Right” by Niels Steeghs from KindaMuzik:

Review Oranjepop 2015

April 28th, 2015

Wow what a review!!

We didn’t see that one coming, cause we played in a small tipi, had a 1-minute-soundcheck and there were no sub speakers. Also, Johanneke had to sit in front of the stage, because on the stage there was only enough space for Tonny. Nice and cozy it was, pretty interesting if you ask us.

Well, this is what Theo Miggelbrink and Bart Peeters from 3voor12 Gelderland had to say about it (in Dutch):

Rock that stage performance!

April 10th, 2015

It’s been a long day, we feel exhausted and reinvented due to the coaching by Jantien Koenders, a great director. We’ve been working with her on our stage performance.

The good thing about Jantien is that she sees who you are as a band, how that relates to the music you make and how you can make it come out in the best possible way, without ever making you feel like you’re faking something. She made us aware of how small movements can have a big impact, how to open a set in an interesting way, how to keep the tension in between the songs but mostly: how to strengthen the message of the songs.

Support by Productiehuis Oost-Nederland

January 1st, 2015

In september 2014, Productiehuis Oost-Nederland (ON) showed their interest in NNENN, after they already supported Johanneke’s solo work. We showed them our studio recordings and they were convinced, it needed a stage. To help us, explore our music intensely, they offered us their place in Deventer where artists such as No Blues, Kyteman, BOT and Knarsetand have been working out their ideas before. Back then, we lived in Enschede, so when we went to ON, we used to stay for days. It felt like camping; we’d come with the big lilac bus of our friend Arthur (didn’t have our own car yet), packed with food, juggler balls, bikes, pictures to spread on the table to find connections with the music and of course our gear. Knowing that we wouldn’t bother anyone, we’d make music till deep in the night. It sometimes occurred that we woke up, completely unaware if it was morning, afternoon or night; we’d shut all the hatches. We lived completely isolated, in our own bubble and that is how we worked our way to our first try-out shows a couple of months later. It was a truly inspiring time that we look back on with a big smile. We’re grateful for the opportunities that ON offers us and we’re looking forward to the future!

The beginning of NNENN

September 9th, 2014

About a year ago, we started a musical adventure that we’ve been working on passionately ever since. We decided to call it NNENN, because we feel that NNENN is the point where our different musical approaches resemble and find each other. If you write down our names like this:

you’ll literally see what we mean; Welcome to NNENN!
